Setting up Microsoft Outlook 2007

To display the bcc box

Outlook  > New > Click the arrow to the right of "Options" > bcc

To request read receipts

Outlook > Tools > Options > Preferences > [E-mail Options] > [Tracking Options] > Read receipt = off -> on

If the recipient is also using Outlook, then they will see an [ acknowledge Yes / No box ] when they first view the email. If they click Yes, then you will get an acknowledgement email.

Perhaps even more importantly, you should get a was deleted without being read message should your email eventually be deleted.

To paste text without its associated formatting

When pasting text from MS Word or the cells of Excel documents into the body of an email, by default, Outlook also transfers the formatting of the source text. To avoid emails becoming a miss/mash of styles, it is useful to change this default setting to paste Text Only. This can be done as follows

Outlook > tools > Options > Mail Format > Editor Options > Advanced > Cut, copy and paste

> Within the same e-mail = Keep Source Formatting (Default) -> Keep Text Only

> Pasting between e-mails: = Keep source formatting -> Keep Text Only

> Pasting between e-mails when style definitions conflict = Use Destination Styles (Default) -> Keep Text Only

> Pasting from other programs: = keep source formatting (default) -> Keep Text Only

> Insert/paste pictures as: = In line with text

> Keep bullets and numbers when pasting text with Keep Text Only option = On

> Use the Insert key for paste = off

> Show Paste Options button = on

> Use smart cut and paste

> [Settings]

   > adjust sentence and word spacing automatically = Yes

   > Adjust paragraph spacing on paste = No

   > Adjust table formatting and alignment on paste = Yes

   > smart style behaviour = Yes

   > Merge formatting when pasting from Microsoft Office PowerPoint = Yes

   > Adjust formatting when pasting from Microsoft Office Excel = No

   > merge pasted lists with surrounding lists = Yes

   > OK

> OK
